Babak Taghikhani
Music
Babak Taghikhani was born in 1975 in Tehran and started piano lessons at the age of 14 with acclaimed piano masters. He was an active participant in piano master classes (Classic and Romantic era) held in Austrian-Iranian Cultural Institute with Ernest Hutzel and Gerhard Geretschlaeger.
Since 2000 he has collaborated as composer and pianist with a number of well-known Iranian musicians and singers. Babak's lyrical interpretation of piano music together with his song writing and composition skills, make his songs a unique personal rendition of Iranian traditional and folk music.
In Canada he was recently awarded a grant from FACTOR (The Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Records) and Canada Art Council for the fusion songs he has written.
With his wife Solmaz Peymaei, he co-founded the band INsou-UNsou in 2006. They have performed in festivals such as Italy Popoli festival 2011 and Teatro Colosseo 2012 and had numerous concerts in Iran. After immigrating to Canada in October 2012 they performed in different events such as Tirgan and Iranian Heritage Day in Royal Ontario Museum.
