Maestro Naser Masoudi

Maestro Naser Masoudi, known as “Nightingale of Guilan” and “Sultan of Guilan’s song”, is the oldest Gilaki contemporary singer who is famous for golden works such as: Mirza Kouchak Khan, Korashim and Banafshe Gol.
The youngest child in the family, Naser was born in 1314 (1936) in “Seyghalan” district in Rasht. He lost his father at the age of three and moved to “Sookhte Tekyeh” located in Mostofi alley of Rasht, along with his three brothers and three sisters . At that time the older sister was the only breadwinner of the family by sewing.
In 1328 (1950) his family moved to Tehran and he was able to serve maestro Ali Akbar Khan Shahnazi as a student.
Returning to Guilan 1334 (1956) he got active in the field of theatre. After the launch of Radio Guilan in 1336, he started his activities in the radio as one of the first singers in radio.
In 1339 (1961) he got introduced to Professor Ahmad Ebadi and Mrs. Molouk Zarabi by a family friend, which was one of the most important events of his life and influenced his career greatly. He married a Gilak girl in 1342 (1964). Two daughters; Banafshe and Bita and a son; Ali were the result of this marriage.
After the revolution of 1978 in Iran, he resumed work by performing the theme song of the popular TV series; “Koochak Jangali” and released 3 folkloric Gilaki albums entitled “Korashim”, “Parchin” and “Halachin” and one Persian album entitled “Ghalandar”. His most recent work is the theme song of the TV series; “The Scent of Wild Flowers”
During 50 years of artistic activity, he has created over 500 songs: over 200 Persian songs, 250 Gilaki folk songs and some other memorable works.
