Tirgan represents a metissage of cultures and boldly advances the frontiers of multiculturalism by reaching across differences to braid the old with the new. It epitomizes a flourishing Iranian diaspora, repositioning the sense of belonging to land, keen to recreate the authentic art and culture of its homeland and stamp the new environment with its cultural impress, yet mindful of the need to enrich such art forms by drawing inspiration from the varied mosaic of its new home, Canada. As such, it celebrates a uniquely Canadian approach to producing broadened horizons. Homeland is the dominant theme that aims to stitch "here" and "there"; while simultaneously expanding the vista of possibilities in both, passing on to the future generations the gift of that deep bond in our heart and spirit to the wisdom of ages, through which we are all related.
Homeland, that happenstance of nature and coloured by culture, is not what differentiates us as residents of this tiny blue spec, but is what nurtures the roots of our identity as human beings. Homeland is the anchor with which we settle in the diverse ocean of humanity spanning across history. A flickering beacon in the horizon of history, that only gains meaning and relevance in the context of time and space. Homeland shall not give cause to wage war and spread injustice among mankind. It reaffirms the wondrous dichotomy of how mankind is fundamentally similar despite the awesome diversity that drives our survival. The homeland is an affirmation of our individuality while celebrating our position in the mosaic of humanity. A tapestry that we happen to inhabit this instance, here, now, together, and in need of each other. A home built upon a land that claims us, but to which we have no claim. The homeland is Mother Nature’s bosom in which we find our place in history. We have no choice in the where and when, but the how and why is up to us.
